Playing at Brubaker Park

Watching families grow is just one of the perks of my job! It’s only been a few months since I last saw Noah and his beautiful mommy, and I couldn’t believe how much he’s grown. Here’s a few of my favorites from the day. Such a cutie!

Baby Greyson

A few weeks ago we featured Carly, Robin and Justin on the blog and shared some of their story. Baby Greyson arrived on his due date via surrogate Carly. I hope you enjoy watching their story as much as I enjoyed capturing it!

Donna & Steve at Knowlton Mansion

In March we had the pleasure of meeting Dan from Simple Life Portraits at the photography workshop we attended. Not only is he an extremely talented photographer, but he’s also an all around great guy and SUPER fun to work with! I (April) had the opportunity to accompany him as the second photographer for a wedding earlier this month. Thank you to Dan for inviting me and to Donna & Steve for hosting such an awesome party! Mother & Daughter Fun

Gwen and I have something in common – we both love helping expectant momma’s and their families. Through her work as a birth and postpartum doula and owner of Mind, Belly and Soul, Gwen coaches families both before and after delivery. Here’s a few of our favorites from our “play date” in the park. Enjoy!

precious gift

This may be the first blog post that I’ve had to really think about what I was going to write. Carly contacted me earlier this year about photographing a birth. The birth of the baby she is carrying for Robin and Justin. After months of emails, phone calls and text messages I have decided Carly is truly one of God’s angels here on earth, and I’m sure Robin and Justin feel the same way! I am honored to share in this experience with them and can’t wait to help welcome this little guy to the world! ***Update: Baby boy was born this past weekend! His birth story will appear on the blog in a few weeks!surrogate maternity

Never stop learning

“Study hard what interests you the most in the most undisciplined, irreverent and original manner possible.”
― Richard P. Feynman

And that is precisely what we did. A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to participate in a two day workshop – The Hoffshop. Hosted and taught by the amazingly talented (and completely genuine)  husband and wife team of Hoffer Photography, Tony and Amy, this workshop was so popular it sold out within a few hours. The fact that it was held at Grace Winery/Sweetwater Farm was a welcomed added bonus!

We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn ways to not only improve our photography but also our business.  Combine that with the fact that our small group of 10 professional photographers from Florida, Louisiana, Missouri, New Hampshire, and of course Pennsylvania felt like family when it was time to leave we’d say it was the most successful professional development experience either of us has ever had!

We traveled light (we seriously only took ONE camera), but here’s some of what we managed to capture while taking notes.

Modern Mother’s Day Session

We’re playing catch up on the blog this week! A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of photographing Wendy and her children. They were such troopers on a very cold and windy March afternoon. In addition to her full-time gig as supermom, Wendy is a local Birth Doula serving Central Pennsylvania as well as the proud owner of Family Trees Birth Place located on New Holland Pike in Lancaster, PA. If you or someone you know is newly expecting an addition or recently welcomed a baby, Family Trees Birth Place is the place to go! Wendy and her staff offer a variety of classes – from childbirth to postpartum groups and everything in between. There really is something for everyone!

Here are a few of our favorites from Wendy’s session – enjoy!

Mommy’s Love [a lifestyle session]

I love God, life, my husband, family, food, books, and the list goes on. However, being a mother, there is little that compares to the love I have for my children! I also LOVE that I was able to capture the connection between this momma and her baby boy. I know she will treasure these moments for a very long time. Enjoy!

Bethany Barger - March 14, 2013 - 1:52 am

Love you April Burns Westhafer! (almost as much as I love these pictures) You’ve done it again….you think my other children will be jealous that they don’t have these same kinds of pictures? It’s good I’m not having any more children….you know how I am with change and doing everything the same. If I had more kids you would have no time to document anyone else’s lives:)

Sharing exciting news

You may recall a few months ago we shared exciting news that one of our photos was chosen to be on the cover of Lancaster Bride Magazine! Well, the time has come. We received our copy in the mail just a few days ago!The details: We had the opportunity to work with Rachael and Brandon (you may also remember seeing their engagement photos) who had planned a beautiful September 2012 wedding that concluded with an intimate reception at Stone Mill Inn. The grounds of the inn provided a picturesque backdrop for numerous photos, but it was this candid shot that everyone (including us) fell in love with. In our opinion, it truly captures the love that these two have for one another.

Congratulations again to Rachael and Brandon. We wish you a lifetime of love and happiness.  It was truly an honor to capture the memories of your special day.

Valentine’s Day Mini

Just in time for custom Valentine’s Day cards for school! We had a blast getting together with wonderful friends of ours. All of the kids got along and played right through nap time, and we even managed to toss in a mini-photo session without any meltdowns. I’d say the day was a success. Let’s not forget the best part – dinner and dessert! While it was difficult to choose, here are a handful of my favorites.

Crew’s Birth Video

You may remember seeing our post a few months ago featuring a birth session. Earlier this week I surprised Crew’s momma with a video of my favorite moments from their maternity session and the birth itself. Do you have your tissues handy? You may need them. Crew’s mommy did!  Not only was this an unexpected gift, but it left her wishing she would have a video documenting the arrival of her older children to their family.

Enjoy!

Sleigh Bells Ring

Is there anything more fun than taking photos on a frigid day at the end of November? We didn’t think so. While weather isn’t something that we photographers have any control of, we certainly try to make the best of all that mother nature hands us. This particular day? Mostly cloudy, in the low 40′s and windy! Bundled up, we headed out for a round of Christmas minis! This little guy didn’t seem to mind the chill one bit!

PMDA Portraits Of Love

Happy Veteran’s Day! We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the men and women in our armed forces, and their families, who sacrifice so much.  We are once again participating in the PDMA (PhotoImaging Manufacturers and Distributors Association) Portraits Of Love.  For more details on this special offering, please visit the PMDA Portraits Of Love website or contact us directly.

The Birth of Crew Michael

When both of my children were born, I appointed my dad as photographer. While he did his best, photography is not among his list of talents, not to mention many of the photos were taken without looking through the viewfinder. Looking back, the photos I have certainly don’t document the day or the emotions that went with it! That being said, when I was asked to photograph the birth of Brad and Beth’s fourth (and most likely final) child, I was honored, excited, and full of anticipation! With me being “in charge” of documenting the day, Brad was able to fully support Beth and not worry about forgetting to take photos for the scrapbook! Giving birth is a blessing in itself, and being able to share in such an intimate experience was heartwarming. Although things didn’t go as planned (when do they ever?), I know Brad and Beth will cherish these photos forever. They tell the story of the birth of Crew Michael!Click here to contact us now to hire us to photograph the birth of your child!

The Schulze Family at Historic Poole Forge

When I last saw Chris and Becky, they were newlyweds! 14 months later we met up again to do a family session at the same location of the wedding. I was excited to meet Noah and enjoyed catching up on all the changes that have occurred during their first year of marriage. Here’s a few of my favorites of their beautiful new family – enjoy!

Apples & Pumpkins

We had a blast getting together with two other families, running through a local orchard, picking a few apples and finding the best pumpkins! While there were many to choose from, here are a few that best show how much fun everyone had. Enjoy!

Erika Hehnly is going to LOVE these.

So…how long did it take for you to convince Lara and Elise to hold hands and pretend to get along for that adorable picture?! hehehehehe!

April Burns Westhafer - October 15, 2012 - 11:19 pm

It was a rare day and I didn’t ask at all! I love capturing those moments and then using them to remind each other that they really do love each other :-)

Maddie

It seems like just a few weeks ago Maddie’s mommy was anticipating her arrival, now she’s 1 month new! What a sweetie. I’m honored that I had the opportunity to photograph Maddie’s first professional portraits. Here are a few of our favorites – enjoy! Oh, and because all is fair in love, war, and INFANT portrait sessions, I threw in an “out-take” to show how much control our youngest clients have over their session.

B & B: 4th edition

Not only was I super excited to get the good news of baby number four, but I was also honored to be asked to once again do Beth’s FOURTH (and quite possibly last) maternity session! Since she is already a busy mom of three, we split the session into two mini’s, so you may recall seeing a blooper of this same beautiful family a few weeks ago. It was quite difficult to choose, but here are a couple handfuls of my favorites. Hope you enjoy!

Rachael & Brandon at Stonemill Inn

It seems like we have fun at every wedding we photograph, and this one was no exception! While the storm threatened to disturb our power during the ceremony, we were able to find a bit of sunshine when we needed it. Truly someone was smiling down on this beautiful couple on their wedding day!

BloopER

Perfect photos don’t happen every time. We get plenty of the “real deal” before we can say – it’s a wrap! Rest assured kids will show their true personalities when the camera is around – and we wouldn’t have it any other way! We LOVE these moments. Capturing your kids true personality is priceless.

T&T at Fox Chase Golf Club

When Tasha and Torey picked their wedding date and asked me to photograph their special day I was very excited. I have watched Tasha grow up to be an independent young lady for the past 20 years! I have babysat Tasha, she has babysat my girls, and now she has two boys of her own. Congrats to her and Torey – we pray you will have a lifetime of happiness.

Janet Bowman Reichenbach - August 13, 2012 - 10:14 am

These pictures are soooooo wonderful! Suxh great memories!

Teresa Reichenbach Knee - August 13, 2012 - 4:21 pm

These are great pictures. are there more.

Brown Eyed Girls

As the family photographer, sometimes we overlook how often we update our own photos! While we have certainly taken plenty of photos of our beautiful girls over the last year and a half, the prints on our wall are from November 2010! These were way overdue.

Phil Russo - August 10, 2012 - 2:35 pm

Those are great dude!

Down by the Boardwalk

We were so excited when we were asked to take a road trip to NJ to photograph this beautiful family! Crazy schedules keep them on the go year round, so taking a break at the beach is something they all look forward to. Having patience while waiting out a rather large storm paid off. A big thank you for sharing a day of your vacation with us. We had a blast!

Bryan Westhafer - July 31, 2012 - 12:50 pm

We had a great time Beth Warner, thanks for asking us to take the pictures!

Teeny Tiny

The first few days and weeks are challenging for many new moms & dads, but they are also the perfect time for baby’s first photo session!  These moments seem to fly by at the speed of light. We are always delighted when we get to capture little ones at this time, because we know all too well that when they are 1, 2, 4, 10, or 20 it seems impossible that they were ever so small. May God bless this new life with love and happiness!

Liz & Chad at Wheatland Place

This was by far the most fun we had while working in quite some time! Liz and Chad (well mostly Liz) planned a beautiful day and were fortunate to have slightly cooler than normal temperatures for June. We wish them all the best as they begin the next chapter in their lives as husband and wife!

John Flinchbaugh - July 10, 2012 - 11:51 am

I love your posing style for those spread-out group shots.

Ninette Barnett - December 2, 2012 - 9:31 pm

Wonderful pictures of a wonderful wedding!

Chrissy Graduates

It’s hard to believe that I met this beautiful young lady almost 8 years ago in my freshman homeroom. Since then, I have had the pleasure of watching her develop into an amazing and intelligent woman. What an honor it was to commemorate her graduation from Arcadia University with a little photo shoot!

Bryan Westhafer - May 19, 2012 - 8:21 pm

Great pictures and congratulations on GRADUATION!

Rachael & Brandon (and Roscoe too)

We have been looking forward to doing this engagement session for quite some time! Thankfully there weren’t any April showers in the forecast – really, we couldn’t have asked for better weather. Thanks to Rachael and Brandon for showing us around Columbia, PA!

Final Wedding of 2011

We were super excited to celebrate New Year’s Eve with Bill & Sue!  Wheatland Place sure was rockin’ on 12/31/2011. It was evident from our first meeting with them not only how much they adore each other, but also what a fabulous sense of humor they both have. If you can’t laugh at/with the one you love…then why laugh? We wish the wonderful couple years of happiness…and many more laughs!

Abbey And Ben

We were so excited to be a part of this beautiful couples’ special day. We had so much fun photographing their engagement session last fall, and the wedding day was equally fun. I have never had a bride quite as laid back (at least on the outside). I’m sure the jokes and smiles shared with family and friends won’t be forgotten! Here are just a few of our favs.

Amanda & Shawn

We are so fortunate that we get to meet nice people through our work, and this couple was no exception. Amanda was one of the most organized brides we’ve seen. Talk about a supportive bridal party! Their friends and family were so helpful and pleasant to work with. Shawn and Amanda certainly have love all around them. We wish you many years of happiness and love!

Brittany Rocks Her Dress

Just a few weeks ago we had the pleasure of photographing this wonderful couple for their wedding. Brittany had expressed interest in a Rock the Dress session this summer. However, soon after returning from their honeymoon, Brittany called with news that the health of one of her horses was deteriorating. She wanted to be sure we got the session done sooner than later. It was a pleasure to work with such a genuine couple twice in such a short amount of time. We hope that these images will bring a smile to Brittany’s face for years to come.

Awesome pictures from a very professional photography team. They did an great job on both my daughter’s wedding (http://www.glimpseintimephotography.com/news/brittany-and-colin-at-lauxmont-farms) and these “Rock The Dress” photos.

Kim & Chad

The love that this couple shares was evident from the very beginning. What was also evident was how much love Kim & Chad have for their families! After an intimate ceremony, we strolled through quaint Stoudtburg Village for some beautiful outdoor shots. We wish this wonderful couple a lifetime of love and happiness.

Stephanie And Ryan

It’s been almost a year since we shot Stephanie & Ryan’s engagement pics. Luckily the wedding day was much cooler than the engagement shoot and although the clouds were threatening, we made it through the day just fine. Best wishes to Ryan & Stephanie as they begin their life together, and a special THANK YOU to Ryan and his fellow Marines for their service to our country!

Rachel’s Rock The Dress

Yesterday’s Rock The Dress session was a lot of fun.  Although a little cold, no one seemed to mind.

Rachel - November 14, 2010 - 12:00 pm

This was so much more fun than I could have even imagined!! April made me feel like such a diva, and was so great at going along with all my crazy ideas…and throwing in a bunch of her own too! The whole session was so relaxed and fun, I couldn’t have asked for a better photographer for my Rock the Dress. I am so happy with the way my photos turned out and would absolutely do it again in a heart beat. Thank you April!!

Katie - November 19, 2010 - 9:45 pm

I love these!! I am going to get my dress out of storage, see if it still fits and do this!!
